Licorice Underwear... Fashion Apparel or Snack Food

A new client came to us for her marketing and web. She was a custom jewelry designer specializing in high end sterling silver and natural stones. She was importing and designing products and selling worldwide. Until then she had been running her own Google campaigns with mixed to not so exciting results.

One of the first things we did was to take a close look at her campaigns and realized something interesting. In an attempt to drive as much traffic as possible to her site she was running very broad and general campaigns. The problem was she was getting and paying for a lot of clicks that were not converting to sales.

We found something even more troubling in her banner ads. She had linked her banner ads to sites that offered women's fashion apparel. When we did a background check we found some of her ads were running on adult sites that offered women's clothing like edible underwear. I have been known to make an occasional mistake but I would link licorice underwear to snack food searches not clothing.

In this case the merchant thought she was doing everything right. The damage was not so bad. It was confined to a little embarrassment and some poor ROI's which we repaired.
